Rudnicki & Company is pleased to recognize associate Ranya El-Sharkawi, who recently obtained release for a client in her tenth consecutive bail hearing.
A Series of Serious Bail Matters
Since the summer, Ranya has been retained on a number of bail hearings involving serious allegations. In each of those ten hearings, the court ordered the client released. Over the same period, she also successfully responded to a Crown application to review a release order, and the client’s release was maintained.
The Most Recent Hearing
The most recent hearing took place last Friday. In addition to serious underlying charges, the client faced two separate allegations of breaching release conditions. Following the hearing, the court released the client to the same surety who had supervised them previously.
Why Bail Matters
A bail hearing is often the most consequential early step in a criminal case. A person who is detained pending trial may lose employment, housing, and contact with family, and may find it harder to prepare a defence. Canadian law starts from the presumption that an accused person is entitled to reasonable bail, but that presumption can be displaced, and cases involving serious charges or alleged breaches of earlier conditions often call for careful preparation and a well-supported release plan.
Congratulations
The firm congratulates Ranya on this run of results and thanks her for the preparation and care she has brought to each of these files.
